Trafford sits at the heart of Greater Manchester and is classed as one of its major economic powerhouses. We are a key asset to the region with a place at the top table of the Northern Powerhouse – essential to Greater Manchester’s growth plans – contributing over £9.6bn to the Greater Manchester economy.
Trafford is home to internationally recognised brands including Manchester United, Lancashire County Cricket Club (Emirates Old Trafford), Kellogg’s, L’Oréal, ITV Coronation Street, Adidas, Unilever and Proctor and Gamble (to name a few) which sit amongst the 13,000 businesses located here. Close to Manchester, the regional centre, Trafford has excellent road and public transport links, busy traditional town centres, exceptional shopping centres (including the nationally recognised INTU Trafford Centre) and fine countryside within its boundaries. It is also home to the award-winning Imperial War Museum North, voted “Best Building in Britain 2004” by the British Construction Industry, while the Sale Waterside development is another nationally recognised achievement, providing local people with easy access to Council services.
Trafford has a diverse population of around 230,000, with some of the most expensive homes in the North of England alongside some of the most deprived communities. There is the widest possible range of housing in everything from urban locations, through leafy suburbs to rural settings. The area is located south of the city centre and consists of Stretford, Sale and Altrincham together with the former urban districts of Bowdon, Hale and Urmston and the parishes of Carrington, Warburton, Dunham Massey and Partington. With our thriving modern market towns, high educational attainment with some of the best results in the country, incredible investment opportunities and major development plans, it’s no surprise Trafford is the place to invest, work, live and visit.
Trafford is currently covered by three constituencies: Altrincham and Sale West (nine wards), Stretford and Urmston (nine wards) and Wythenshawe and Sale East (three wards)
